The Fossil Group will launch a smartwatch using Google's Android platform later on this year, according to a statement on the tech giant's blog.
The information came as Google revealed its brand-new mobile technology platform "Android Wear"-- which it prepares to kick off with watches, because they are "the most familiar wearable." Fossil was the only watch or fashion brand name pointed out in the announcement.
According to the blog site, the Android watches will offer users with notifications from apps; response concerns and do tasks-- like book-- in feedback to spoken triggers; display health and wellness; and control other devices, such as a tv.
Fossil declined further comment. In a statement, chief method and marketing officer Greg McKelvey said, "We believe we are distinctively placed to develop and give market items for our fashion clients that marry the beauty of our designs, the promise of our brands, and now the function of new technology. Still extremely much in the developmental study and development phase, we are committed to playing an active duty in the push toward wearable technology and assisting to form the combination of fashion and technology.".
In addition to Fossil, Google is dealing with consumer electronic companies Asus, HTC, LG, Motorola, and Samsung and chip makers Broadcom, Imagination, Intel, MediaTek, and Qualcomm.
