The Fossil Group will launch a smartwatch using Google's Android platform later on this year, according to a statement on the tech giant's blog.
The information came as Google revealed its brand-new mobile technology platform "Android Wear"-- which it prepares to kick off with watches, because they are "the most familiar wearable." Fossil was the only watch or fashion brand name pointed out in the announcement.

In addition to Fossil, Google is dealing with consumer electronic companies Asus, HTC, LG, Motorola, and Samsung and chip makers Broadcom, Imagination, Intel, MediaTek, and Qualcomm.
